Hello BBBB Friends:
From a new listing perspective, there was very little activity this week, so I thought I’d take advantage of the lull and feature new construction. Most new construction offerings don’t make it to BBBB because they are still under construction when they hit the market.
I selected 4 homes to feature today at graduated price points ($284-$436 per square foot). As you peruse these selections, you will notice a common theme: wide-plank white oak flooring (most are engineered wood), painted kitchen islands (shades of blue, grey, or green), quartz countertops, and metal ballisters with wood railings. They are all similarly staged with the same color palette. The differences in price are primarily location, square footage, and lot size. On a home tour, they would all blend together, but such is the state of new construction today.
A good thing about new construction is that builders are typically amenable to making changes, such as paint color. Add to the price a budget for window coverings and appliances if they can’t be negotiated into the contract.
Don’t forget to keep scrolling down to see price changes, new contracts, and final sales for those homes that are Still on My List!
TOYS AND MORE
Did you know there is a toy museum in the Heights? You can find it at 321 W 19th Street, sandwiched between Tea Sip tea store and Manready Mercantile, in the Heights’ historic shopping district. The Houston Toy Museum, which opened in October, offers a trip down memory lane and showcases toys from every era since the early 1800s. Scenes from a Christmas Past, a special exhibition, is now on display.
“Our exhibits showcase a timeline of popular toys throughout the decades and explore how world events and technological advancements impacted toy production and the future of toys. We dive deep as we explore racial representation in toys, as well as the influence of gender stereotypes on the way that certain toys were marketing to boys and girls.”
Matt Brussard, Chief Toy Officer, Houston Toy Museum
The museum is open daily (Saturday from 10-6 and Sunday-Friday from 11-5). While the museum isn’t a children’s museum, there is an interactive play space on the 2nd floor for little ones. There is also a gift shop where you can buy nostalgic toys that may bring back a few memories of your own.
Tomorrow, Dec 12: Toys & Joys – Houston Heights Association Monthly Meeting this month features a special performance by area youth, a Holiday Imagination Station & Chocolate Bar for kids, and a “toy story” by Houston Toy Museum’s Chief Toy Officer, Matt Brussard. The fun starts at 6:30 at the historic Heights Fire Station at 107 W 12th. Unwrapped toys are being accepted for Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen’s Annual Toy Drive.
Have a great week and,
Let’s go look at houses or talk about selling yours!
