Hello BBBB Friends:
Despite rising interest rates and low inventory, single-family home sales in the Heights are brisk and competitive. Today, I am featuring 4 new listings. Be sure to keep scrolling down for price improvements, new contracts, and final sales for those homes that are Still on My List.
FUN FACTS: MORE THAN A MILLION!
Million-dollar homes in the Heights were not always as common as they are today. You might be surprised to know that the first million-dollar home sold in the Heights was the Cooley Mansion* at the corner of Heights & 18th. Built in 2001 it sold for $1.1 million. It wasn’t until 5 years later in 2006 that a second home sold for over a million, and it was the same house! Fast forward to 2021 when 17.5% of homes sold in the Heights cost more than $1 million. (Note, these statistics include only those sales reported in HAR, the multiple listing service. Custom homes are not included in these numbers.)
*The original Cooley Mansion was built in 1892 and stood on the property that is now Marmion Park. Not only was it the first mansion built in the Heights, but it was also one of the first in the Heights to have electricity. The house was demolished in 1965 after falling into disrepair. The Houston Heights Association purchased the property in 1979 and constructed Marmion Park.
Have a great week and,
Let’s go look at houses or talk about selling yours!!!
